horseshoe hill and a giveaway...

This morning I decided to show you the little makeover I have been working on in my kitchen.  Now it is not quite done yet as I still have a few spots to fill but who knows when I will find the right treasure and I could not wait anymore.  So come on in and take a peek...
The sun was shining brightly on Monday...snow today!

Now I did not have to paint or do the floor nor did I need a new table.  I just wanted to take away all the pink and roses from here and give it a french farmhouse touch.  This big old wooden bowl (do you call it a dough boy?) was my Mom's and it looks great on the beautiful runner I won from Maria...

I usually have the bowl filled with fruit or vegetables but I have not been to the market yet this week.
I found this small old ladder a while ago and finally found the perfect spot...
Then I added one of the french market totes from Andrea...
Yes I have one with a blue stripe in my den!

This is how one wall used to look...
You might remember I moved the square mirror to the little hall outside my bath but the big mirror stayed...
I love this frame but the paper inside, not so much anymore...
So I changed out the paper, moved a few things around added one of my vintage beadboard signs and an old treasure that I found...
Hey, that rhymed!

I just love this old piece, does anyone know what it is...
You can see the new piece of scrapbook paper I put in the frame...
See inside the mirror?  My beautiful sign from Castle and Cottage...
As much as I love this sign I wanted a change.  So I got in touch with Paula and asked her if she could personalize a sign for me.  I told her I wanted it to be the same size with a white background.  I also wanted it to be "farmhouse style"...
After a few days of trying to come up with the perfect sign for my home I finally decided on this...
My family has been seasonal camping at Pinewood Lodge Campground for almost 15 years.  Our site has always been on Horseshoe Hill.  Jim and I were married in 1985.  Paula put it all together perfectly...

I kept my little birds and I just moved my chalkboard over a bit...
Which leaves me this space to fill in...

Yes I am still looking for one of those old fashioned looking phones that PB used to sell.
Now here is an area where I am on the fence...
I got my calendar from Vintage Rescue Squad!

I would love to take these two doors off the cabinets and have that great open shelf look...
Can't quite talk the mister into it...yet!

I was going to change out the curtains for some with a ticking stripe or burlap perhaps but these hung in my Mom's kitchen (she made them) and I just love the fabric...

While this makeover might not be a huge change...
I just love it!  Especially my new sign (thank you so much Paula!)...
And in honor of my One Year Blog Anniversary I am going to give away one of Paula's signs!!  She graciously agreed to personalize a sign just like this for the winner of my giveaway that begins today and ends at midnight February 9th with the winner announced on February 10th (my blog anniversary)!!

I am going to keep it simple.  All you have to do is leave a comment on this post to be entered to win!

Oh and I am going to mail you a few little surprises too!

I am joining Kathleen for White Wednesday (and boy is it really white here in Massachusetts) as well as Sarah for Good Life Wednesday.  Thank you ladies for hosting and thank you all for stopping by!

Kitchen looks lovely. As for removing the cupboard doors, remember that you have to love everything that will show. Is that large brown basket related to pulling cranberries out of a flooded blog? I know I have seen them in Mass before. We had a "snow day" today, yippeee, but certainly did not have the snow they expected. it's coming your way ;-)

Beautiful job and it's so neat, I would keep walking back into the room to look at it.
Please add my name to your giveaway. HOW FUN!!!
And thanks for sharing your beautiful new-re-do.
Hugs, Amy (Mom to the Four Sisters)

Sandi,
The tour of your home is just yummy! I LOVE your kitchen. It's so you! I think that brown basket is an old farm sifter of some sort. Not sure though. I had one myself that sold at the shop many moons ago. Keep those posts coming...love to hear your thoughts and what you're up to.
Love and Hugs,
Karen

It looks great Sandi!! I especially like the simplicity of the bowl resting atop the red striped linen....which is french, I'm sure!?!

I adore the idea of removing the doors on your cabinet for open shelving. That idea screams farmhouse to me! You can fill it with all sorts of things that you use everyday but are also beautiful! Wish I could do that in my kitchen!!

Very nice my dear!

Happy TOO WHITE Wednesday, Sandi! I'm snowbound with the kids and your blog post gave me a lift. It's funny how just simple changes can really transform a space. I love all your new touches, especially the grain sack items. It's funny, I'm considering the open cabinet door idea as well, but my mister will probably shake his head. Too much clutter behind!
LOVE your new sign, and hope to win one, too!

I'd have trouble too swapping out curtains that my Mom made and I know from prior posts that you have a lot of pieces you keep for sentimental reasons...that's a great quality in you! Your kitchen is transforming very nicely...LOVE the color of your walls.

Love your kitchen. What color are the walls? I love that color. Your dough bowl is wonderful. I have 2, one belonged to my Great Grandmother passed down to me from my Grandmother. The other one I got from the estate of a lady who was a lifelong member of our Church. I love decorating them for different seasons! Your wall displays are lovely. I love the sifter. I think yours is an ash sifter that they would sift the ashes from a fireplace or wood stove. It has a larger mesh. Mine had a finer mesh and was called a grain or seed sifter. There is even a smaller mesh that was used for finer grains. ~~Sherry~~

Sandi- Sometimes it is the small changes that make ALL the difference. I love your "new" kitchen. Now that I have said that I am just wondering which of my kids has the old phone from the farm. It was a real one that hung on the wall and you cranked it to call my aunt that lived down the hill. hmmmm...

I can see that you did a lot of leg-work though with your change over...and it shows. Everything looks beautiful! I am glad you kept your little birds though because they are one of my favorites...oh~and I love your Mom's old bread bowl too.

Sign me up for the Sign (has a nice ring to it huh?>) Diana

Morning, Sandi!

I've never seen your kitchen so it's new to me :) Love the color, sign and beadboard. The idea of open shelving sounds perfect! Burlap curtains would look really good with your color palette.I understand about the sentiment of your moms curtains though. The Farmhouse kitchen is the look I'd like to achieve, also. We have cherry cabinets so hopefully, we can paint this Spring. I like the direction you're going! Looks great!

Congrats on your 1 year! Woohoo! Signs...Count me in!

Take care! ~Michelle :)

Hi Sandi, I am tired just from reading through your past several posts. You have been busy! Love all the changes. And that bird tray hanging on the wall is just gorgeous! Great colors and sweet birdie images. It is very windy here right now -- I wonder if a sand storm is rolling in ??? We had a bit of drizzle this morning. So many of ya'll are digging out of snow over there. Stay warm and cozy. Hope you are all better now! Best wishes, Tammy (PS don't sign me up for the giveaway either. Lovely things and lovely ideas. Always remember that the eye needs a place to rest between looking at pretties, so don't fill every space on your wall, otherwise it will look cluttered. I especially like your new personalized sign.

I love what you've done in your dining room and kitchen. It certainly says farmhouse to me! I think the idea of taking the doors off and changing the curtains is a good one and would really add to the look! I would love to win your giveaway and would be more than happy to pay for postage. I have been tempted so many times to get rid of my pink and roses but just can't do it yet.. lol!! take care, Maryann

Sandi, the kitchen looks so pretty. Your post proves that sometimes small changes can make a huge difference. When you find out what the mesh thingie is hanging on your wall, please let us know. I am curious, too! I love the little bird plate, and the change in your sign is so special to you and your family. I love it when people have things in their home that is unique and meaningful to them. I think it would be so much fun to have a personalized sign like yours. If I am the lucky winner, I would probably want a sign that says "atelier" for my (& my daughter's) art studio we are creating in our former living room.

Congrats early on your blogiversary (sp?) :D

Congrats on your one year anniversary, Sandi! Didn't that year just fly by?? I adore the direction your style is heading. :) Even small, simple changes can totally transform a room. I've been doing the exact same thing over the past year. I think as we visit our blog friends, exchange ideas, and discover new ways of repurposing things from the past, our tastes change and makes the ride so much fun! :)

I took 2 doors off of a cabinet that sets over our kitchen desk area and painted the insides white (while hubby was gone over a weekend!). Since he isn't too game on me painting all of the cabinets in my kitchen (which I would love to do), just taking those doors off really opened up the room and I was able to display my vintage white mixing bowls and pitchers! (You can always easily put the doors back on in the future.) :)

I would LUV to win a sign from Paula for my newly inspired French country farmhouse. Please throw my name in the bucket! ♥

xoxo laurie

I love it, I scooted on over here from Paula's, and got caught up in your blog...I think, not sure, but the "mesh thing" looks like a garden sifter. Used to sift rocks out of the soil. There are some that have smaller scree, as in fly screen, to sift seeds. I love the new look, and Paula's sign looks so good, in white. I could go on and on, and then you'd click me off!
Congratulations on your first year of blogging, and heres to many more!
