hidden potential...

I know you see it...
You can't miss it...
Even my good friend Sue (thank you Sue and Cody) who thought of me when she found these in the trash saw it...

I know most of you are thinking Epcot right now but I am thinking hidden potential.  I admit, the Disney lover that I am thought Epcot at first too.  But after a closer inspection ~ the spheres are smooth ~ and did you see all that yummy detail?  A few coats of the perfect shade of white spray paint (suggestions welcome), a little sanding here and there and for the sphere (suggestions welcome again) perhaps a transfer or some (sheet music) decoupaging?  I do not even know if they work.  They are pretty big and would take up a lot of space in my booth so I might even take them apart and just makeover the black base and top.  As for the shades which are tattered and torn I was thinking I should just rip off the old and leave bare and the new owner would at least have the right size shade.  So, here I am today, on Nifty Thrifty Tuesday, with my curb side find, in makeover limbo.  I would love to hear what you think, and be honest!  Thank you Linda at Coastal Charm for hosting today and for featuring me as well...I am very honored!!

Hmmm not much help here. I know they can be remade into something amazing, but my creative brain is not working yet this morning.
Gotta have a cup of cappicino or something first...lol. Be sure and show us when you get them all madeover!!

Well I don't have any ideas off the top of my head but since they were freebies I say have fun and experiment with them and see what happens. I think a creamy white would be pretty on them but then maybe a shot of color on the spheres. The shades could be made to coordinate with the sphere color. OK...I guess that was an idea off the top of my head....I haven't had enough coffee this a.m.
Have fun with them
Jane

The sphere is throwning me off. LOL! But I do see potential! Paint them white and distress them first and go from there. The color Heritage White by Rustoleum is a gorgeous cottagy white color. Have fun!

Sandi,
Always love FREE!!! I'm thinking you should do a two tone look...maybe brown and cream.

Blessings,

these are very cool Sandi...I look at those globes and think wouldn't they be neat as mercury glass? Not sure if that's possible but might start you thinking:)
Be sure to show us what you come up with!

Please don't think I'm throwed off, but I love them as they are. I could so see them in a Thanksgiving setting. Maybe if the metal was distressed with a brown stain is all I would do...oh...and burlap shades.

Well-What a trash dump treasure. I think they are kind of spiffy...but I don't like the gold globes. Are they glass (the globes). I would probably spray paint those suckers an off white and then use some kind of glaze over them to pick up all the detailing. I wouldn't be opposed to spray painting the globes either..and then modge podging (or something) on them. I'd tear off the old covering on the shades and leave them..it would be hard to find shades that size, I think...I think they shades would be neat covered in burlap too...If you left the gold globes I could see you doing the lamps over in more of a bronze...again with the burlap shades. Well...what are YOU thinking? Hugs- Diana

In my mind i see the spheres painted an aqua blue and aged/stained down the rest of the lamp white and chippy and i would fix some rope or thick string across the spheres and make them look like vintage sea glass floats..the shades either stripped down as you said or a plain sail white linen or maybe with an aqua stripe around the middle,

I think I would break them down, remove the globes, and put them back together as large candle holders. The white distressed you had in mind would look great. I had a similar one, years ago someone re furbished and they made it white, but the globe was clear so it worked well, and it had a cute key to turn it on and off, my Dad has it now in fact. But large candle holders in a pair are always nice.

Hmmm - tough one. I say you leave as is and put your time and money into some really cool shades.

It always blows my mind what can be found in the trash!!! I can't really help you tho, I just blogged about my own 'whether to paint or not paint' dilemma! I think part of it for me is with summer being over I'm liking the dark/brassy look of certain things.

BTW, I keep forgetting to let you know that I love your new header!!!

Hey Sandi! I would definitely paint them white and then distress them alot to show the black underneath. They just might have potential! :)

Hi Sandi
I love treasures like this!! I am partial to painting over with white then letting the black show underneath. Can't wait to see what you do.

Congrats on your feature.
