broke the rule...

Ok, I admit it, I broke the rule.  I even broke the amended rule.  But as you will see as I show you how I fluffed my nest for Halloween, I couldn't resist...
I decided to keep the painting...I listened to you and it did warm up my room for the fall!  Thank you!!  Now in my living room I just added a few little touches to the mantle for Halloween like Miss Tiger Lily (from Etsy)...
Isn't she sweet!  Then I just added this little tussie to the other end of the mantle...
I usually fill the fireplace with candles and when lit in the evening the glow through this sparkly pumpkin is so pretty...
To the ledge I already gave a fall makeover to here is what I added...

Of course I had to add a little magical sparkle...
I also added a few little touches on this table ...

My kitchen table got a new little centerpiece...
Here in my den where I spend so much time blogging I added this wonderful poem that I framed from The Graphics Fairy to the cork board over the computer...

Remember the wonderful invitation I showed you the other day?  Here it is...

Simple fall vignette...
Love this old piece...I think it was part of a curtain holder...

Now I can show you how I broke the rule for a second time.  I decided to keep this as well...
You were right again ~ I just love it!  I added a bit of sparkle here too...

Gone are the days of orange pumpkins, ghosts and witches around my nest.  These subtle hints of Halloween are more my style.  I am joining Cindy over at My Romantic Home today for Show and Tell.  Thank you for visiting today!  Don't forget to come back on Sunday 10~10~10 to enter my giveaway!  We will be enjoying a beautiful long weekend here in honor of Columbus Day (or something else...hee hee).  One last weekend with my girls around the fire!  Hope you all enjoy your weekend!!

old tea wagon and wedding album...

Good Morning, it's Friday!! This was a short week but aren't they the longest ones sometimes?! Not only is it Friday but it is Vintage Black Friday over at The French Cupboard (thanks for hosting Jill)! Today I am going to share with you my Mom's old tea wagon. I remember her telling me she got it at an estate sale (when I was very little) and she had my brother Dave refinish it for her. Our house was very "country" growing up. She had a few pieces of black furniture as well as lots of other pieces with dark wood tones. The tea wagon done over fit in perfectly... We had a cottage down the cape a few years ago and I used it for an end table. (Now there's another post for the future ~ and thanks for sharing yesterday ~ glad to know I am not the only one that has blog blockage!) I usually keep this downstairs and bring it up when I have a party or around the holidays to put desserts on. I used to have my old sewing machine table here but it is now in my Paris Hotel Suite. My husband needed a place to put his humidor that he recently bought so the tea wagon has been nesting here in the den. By the way they don't make white humidors and I told him I didn't mind having it out but make it either black or a dark wood tone ~ not that orangey wood. As you can see in the photo he listened well (not)! I am not a tea drinker so I do not have lovely old tea pots or pretty cups and saucers to display like so many of you do. Although I love this old tea wagon I just can't seem to feather it to my liking... I sometimes look at it and want to paint it white (of course)... But I just can't. My Mom wanted to paint it white too but it reminded her of my brother Dave because he refinished it and did a beautiful job... And it reminds me of him too and how she loved the way it turned out. So the tea wagon will stay as is and nest in my den...for now. Since today is the VBF for June I thought I would also share some old photos from my Mom and Dad's wedding. They didn't get married in June (I did) but I thought you might like to take a peek inside their wedding album... Look at all the beautiful lace! Wish I had all these dresses. My Mom looks so beautiful as well as my sweet Nana. The lovely lady on the right is my Auntie Joan, Mom's only sister. She has always been my favorite aunt ~ I remember weekends at her house when I was little and having so much fun. We still have fun when we are together! AJ ~ you are a big part of my heart and I love you! Look how dashing my Grandfather looks... And now the happy couple... I also wish I had their cake topper... Now these next photos are not from my parent's wedding but of my Mom at a wedding... Looking so happy and beautiful...As I mentioned I was a June bride and we will be celebrating 25 years on the 22nd! I have been putting together a little "down memory lane" gift full of pictures and momentos. I don't know about your guy but Jim never gets excited about any gift, ever! So I am just "making" something. Do any of you amazingly crafty clever people have any ideas ~ I would love to hear them! Well, thank you for visiting today! I am also joining Cindy over at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell Friday. Thank you for hosting Cindy and don't forget to visit The French Cupboard too! Have a great weekend!!

princess suite...

In honor of my girl finishing up her junior year in college and coming home this weekend I thought I would share with you the "princess suite" before the princess brings all her "stuff" home and the room does not look as sweet as I would like it. Hope you all like pink... Jac picked the color of her walls ~ it is a salmony pink ~ reminds me of the geraniums my Mom always use to get every year. I love the way these two rose paintings pop against the wall color... I found this cute cherub lamp on ebay and the lamp shade at a local consignment shop... Sweet little mirror that hangs atop the two rose paintings... Pretty pillow from Marshalls... She loves Audrey... I just recorded "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and am hoping to watch it together when she gets home. I love her vanity. It was a gift from my sister in law Christine when Jaclyn was little...I found this fabulous old syroco mirror at a yard sale for $2!! It was gold but it got a coat of dreamy white... These cute little blocks got a shabby makeover... When she was younger her room was covered in "Titanic" posters and pictures of Leo. My Mom bought her this little music box... I recently put this cabinet in her room for more storage. I am just looking for the time to give it a shabby makeover... Jaclyn loves mirrors just like her Mom ~ this one was from our beach cottage... I love this lingerie chest... But I love this bureau even more... Isn't it fabulous!! I found this beauty in New Bedford. I intended it for my booth but thought it would be perfect for the princess suite. Look at the roses... Don't you think they should make white televisions... This was from her sweet sixteen party... Beautiful then... Beautiful now... I've missed you Jac and am very happy you are coming home... I am joining Cindy at My Romantic Home for Show and Tell and am hoping to get in on the Pink Saturday fun that Beverly hosts over at How Sweet the Sound. Thank you all for stopping by and have a wonderful weekend!!!
