inspiration wanted...

They are predicting more snow this weekend.
Really?
I am so ready for Spring!
With Winter not wanting to leave yet, I thought I would start to sprinkle a little Spring around the house.
While putting away all my Valentine decorations, I also removed the mercury glass and glittered pine cones from my mantel.
I changed out the mirror too, switching this one...

For this one from our entry way...

I like the way it looks...

To the left of the mantel I had pictures of my kids which I moved and now I am not sure what to fill it in with (trying to use what I already have).

Choice A...

I love this old frame that I "borrowed" from my bedroom...

and choice B...

My NH road trip find.
I "borrowed" this chalkboard from the other side of the room...

Which one would you choose, A or B?
Maybe you have a choice C...I would love to hear your suggestions!

Here is the little bit of Spring that I sprinkled yesterday...

This is my favorite egg that I decoupaged...

As I have been looking at this wall while trying to decide between the frame and the chalkboard, I feel that the wall is too white.
Did I just say that?
It feels boring...maybe because I am tired of looking at the same stuff.
Maybe I need more texture.
I am definitely feeling the need for some color ~ just a touch.

So I would love it if you would share with me your choice of A the frame, or B the chalkboard as well as your suggestions on how to add a touch of color to this room.

Inspiration wanted, thanks!!

  1. Sandy,
I love your eggs and wire baskets with the mirrors on the mantle!!! Light, bright and a sprinkling of Spring, indeed!
Both A and B choice are gorgeous! The black chalkboard does draw the eye into the room...but either needs a message or an embellishment.
My only inspirational thought would be to bring more of the hue of the eggs into the mix...soft aqua or turquoise!!!
Sorry, dear friend...I am so~o~o enJOYing this SNOW...all 12+ inches of it!!!
28 days until the arrival of Sprong!

  2. My choice is the frame that you borrowed from your bedroom. Love it!

I am with you feeling the need to add little pops of color...soft color for Spring. I think this happens every year...we are tired of white...that stuff called SNOW...especially. HA!! Happy decorating!!

  3. i KNOW..can you believe more snow? ugh! but..that does give me the excuse to sit here and catch up on my reading list! ;) as for your spring changes...lovely! I would go with choice A...but that's juts "moi." as for adding a touch of color...why not some throw pillows in a french blue-grey...with a simple pattern? and find a few "tresors" with that same color to add to your mantle and tablescapes?? the room is really lovely just the way it is though! happy w-end! ;)

PS...merci mon amie! you know why!! made my day! j'adore!!!

  4. I love the chalkboard. Maybe write "welcome Spring"? Just keep shopping the cottage. My favourite thing to do and it will all fall into place. You have such talent in decorating. I can hardly wait to see what you do ~

  5. I like A , but I think I would like B if you write something about spring on it . I think it is the big black space that bothers me .Writing on it would solve that problem .

  6. By the way , I love that big mirror over the mantel . I saw a similar one the other day at a local thrift store but didn't know what I would do with it . I wonder if it is still there ?

  7. Your mantel really looks fantastic, perfect for spring. I like look A the best...the chalkboard is a little dark for your allover look. I read somewhere that everyone should have a touch of red in a room...maybe a red book on the mantel mixed in with some neutral ones? A candle? Maybe a little pop of another favorite color. Nothing major, I really like the whites you have going on! :)

  8. I love "A" the White Frame--so pretty...

  9. I like choice A better. But B is nice too, I just thnk something needs to be written on it. :)
I like your sweet little nests. I need to get mine out!

  10. I like both of them, but B is my fav!

    Great weekend to you

  12. I love the look of your entire room. That metal basket with the eggs is just adorable. I like option B the best probably because the dark chalkboard acts like an anchor. It will be fabulous with something beautiful written on it.

  14. Okay- Here is me and my big mouth. I don't think either one of them is quite right because of the size. It kind of pulls your main focus off the mantle where your big mirror is. I guess I think the mirror should be the focal point (or the chalkboard in its place turned sideways) and something of a little lesser value on the side(s)...but that's just me~ xo Diana

  15. You have a very pretty mantle. The wire basket and colored eggs bring a springtime feel. I would add a touch of leafy green tucked in someplace.

The blackboard is a little "jarring" with all the whites. I like the frame best.

You've got a head start on spring and now you can enjoy!

  16. Hi Sandi! Looks like you're enjoying sprucing up for spring. It's nice to get excited for the next season, especially with more white stuff on the way! Speaking of white...guess I like option A (no surpise, huh?). If you wanted more color & texture, perhaps you could add some botanical prints inside the frame or spring flowers on the mantel. Or with option B you could write a nice spring message. Have fun hunkering down this weekend!

  17. Definitely "A", Sandi! I love the flow it gives the room with what you have on your mantel. The chalkboard, from a distance, looks like a black hole in the wall. lol I love that mirror you placed over the mantel! The lines are so graceful!

  18. I really am not a good person to comment, because I love white. So, A would be my pick for the wall. If you want some color in it...add some crinkled seam binding draped over the frame....some pastel colors, with some antique lace? and add a vintage cameo, or pin.
I like the suggestion of adding some pillows that bring in a little spring color. Faded pastel, or aqua colors.
Whatever you do, Sandi...I know it will look wonderful.

  19. Hi Sandi, love both choices, but I'm thinking that the wonderful white frame with a bundle of beribboned posies hanging inside or something else light and Springy would balance things out. I'm ready for Spring too!!

  20. I vote for choice a! I love the frame, and think it looks perfect. I also love all of your eggs and wire pieces too! As for more color, how about adding some pretty toss pillows, maybe in a colorful pattern. You could also add a lampshade with some of the colors in the pillows. And maybe a big bouquet of flowers, a good excuse to buy yourself a bunch!

  21. Sandi I think they both look pretty. But my favorite is just the frame.I think it works better with all of your pretty white.
Your room is beautiful!LOVE your fireplace vignette!

  22. I choose A. Your room looks lovely, but if you're craving some spring color, how about some throw pillows made from a well worn quilt and a few pastel colored vintage ceramic vases to match. Or toss a quilt in colors you love over the sofa! I'm thinking spring in snowy MN. :)

  23. I like both choices--I love the frame from your bedroom..but also like the idea of a message on the chalkboard--so I'm no help! Maybe you could make the bedroom frame into a chalkboard? :) I like the lack of color--but you could add some colored pillows or something. have fun!

  24. I guess choice A, only because I think the dreamy white frames go together great and looks like it belongs together. I love the chalkboard too, so I don't think either way is wrong! I'm this way too! When you see it together you will be comfortable with one more then the other! Your style is fabulous!!!! xo Pam

  25. this post sooooo makes me want a mantle to decorate!! i'm just a wee bit jealous!! :-)

I like both choices but I think I'm leaning towards B....there's a little black peeking out from your fireplace behind the fence and the black chalkboard drew my eye over there. I like it when my eye bounces around a room taking in all the eye candy!

    winter.must.leave.soon. I.can't.take.much.more.
    just sayin'!

  26. I think it's all beautiful. I would keep the 1st mirror or write something on the chalkboard mirror. Just a wee bit more of the earthy wood tones would be pretty with a pop of a soft color here and there. I love mixing natural wood with the whites and creams. Have fun!

  27. Thanks so much for your visit! I enjoyed looking through your blog and am now following. How have I missed you for three years?

  28. Boooo, go away snow and stop upsetting Sandi!!! I like choice A, the frame looks so pretty there and you could even hang some dried roses or lavender in it:) I'm sure whichever you choose, it will look lovely!

Sending you some warm Florida sunshine:)

  29. I like A better than B as the chalkboard is almost too dark. Have you considered putting a pretty, soft floral dinner plate in the frame? or maybe some on the wall around the mirror to add a bit of color on your wall - something soft and light, but with some delicate color. You could also pick up some color by adding "hanging ribbon/bows" on your frames. Very pretty room!

  30. I love to make chalkboard trays and framed chalkboard, so I'm partial to those. However, I think all the ideas are simply lovely.

  31. everything looks lovely! i love all the mirrors and frames- i have a mirror obsession! :) not like looking at myself in them obsessed, but just pretty mirror obsessed!

  32. love either mirror. It looks great!
    The eggs are gorgeous!!!!!!
You ask about what color to add, maybe a fern to bring in a touch of spring green.
    Have a wonderful week.

  33. I think A. The black in the chalkboard seems a little too harsh to me. But, you know what would really look good there, a painting, something soft like a little meadow or a seascape in a vintage frame? Something with soft blues and greens... and with the color of the sofa in the painting. Something kind of like the first painting from this blog post i did...

    http://cindysfracturedfairytale.blogspot.com/2013/01/you-guys-have-to-try-this-and-some.html

or the last painting in this blog post...

Sorry, i'm not trying to promote my blog, but i think something along these lines would be really pretty... and you could maybe even paint something like these yourself!
