quiet time...

Quiet time...
I remember enjoying quiet time when my children would nap...
As they got older it would mean quiet time alone in their room with a book...
This old clock was on the mantel in my house growing up.  You could hear it ticking away.  And every hour it would chime the time...
Very loudly.  Day and night.  I remember my Dad asking my Mom, "Can we keep quiet time?"...
I recently had Jim wind her up.  She still works and chimes every hour.  It brought back a lot of memories and I enjoyed hearing the chiming ~ for a while.  Maybe I will wind her up again one day but for now I am enjoying quiet time...

When you find some quiet time I hope you visit Debra over at Common Ground where she is hosting Vintage Inspiration Friday.  Have a wonderful weekend!!

Oh...and it is snowing...AGAIN!!!

  1. My grandmother had a clock that ticked so loud and chimed on the hour. We hated when it chimed for bed time on our cousin sleepover nights! You could only hear it tick if we were all in trouble. lol

  2. I have my grandfather's clock and sometimes the ticking is like a drippy faucet...lol! Most of the time, the ticking and chiming are reminders of him.
    Yours is beautiful.

  3. There is just something about a ticking clock and chiming on the hour that transports us back...back to a softer, sweeter time when life was metered out in a different way...where there was time to read and relax and just sit a spell. Love the memories this post produced. Hugs- Diana

  5. What a very sweet clock. I always loved my parent's grandfather clock. They've had it for over 20 years and I love that my dad still has to wind it up! Of course my boys love stealing the key to the case.

  6. I love the sound of ticking clocks. We have clocks everywhere. We recently had guests stay, and I found the clock hidden under a pillow in a corner after they left!! I should have thought of that. I'll have to remember to remove it next time!! I felt so bad!

Your old clock is a beauty!

  7. One of my favorite times...any day/all day is Quiet Time. It wasn't always the case, but as I get older (did I really just say that?) I love it more and more. A beautiful clock and beautiful blog.

Thank you for your visit at my home too. Hope you'll stop by again soon.

  12. I remember my great grandmothers, grandfather clock! It was fascinating, as a kid. There is just something so special about a clock chiming on the hour. We have a Catholic church by our house that the bell rings at noon everyday, and I just love it!

Your clock is beautiful and one to cherish!

A much happy weekend to you!

  13. Hi Sandi,
I have memories of old clocks as well. My mom still has one that was her parents, but I don't think it works anymore.
My uncle repaired clocks for years and I remember one year when I stayed overnight at their house to babysit. They had many, many old clocks and they were all ticking and chiming at different times during the night. I thought it would drive me nuts. I don't think I got much sleep that night. ha!
    Hugs~

  17. I really have a thing for old clocks and I love yours. My parents have a grandfather clock, and I can remember laying in bed as a child, listening for the chimes to see what time it was.

  21. Such sweet memories for you, Sandi. :) I love the words "quiet time" as much as love "summer afternoon".

My grandmother used to have a coo-coo clock that we kids used to love watching the little blue bird pop out of it every hour! :)
