fall ledge makeover...

In keeping with the "no new stuff" rule I set for myself (which has had it's first amendment ~ no new "big" stuff) I decided to dress up the ledge over my couch for fall using things I already had around my nest. I loved this new little vignette I put together here for my craft room... The colors and textures will compliment my Nana perfectly... So I started at one end with this... I put a little something in the middle... I almost painted this drawer white ~ so glad I did not, for now... Then I finished off the other end with this... You can see how nicely the mirror I showed you the other day looks with it all. The end result is that I have transformed the ledge from this... To this... The only new things I purchased were the rolled up pages of sheet music (I picked page 63 for the year I was born) and the old french grammar book that are in the drawer. Oh, and yesterday there was one lonely little white beauty left at the shop...... I usually wait until October 1st to put out my Halloween decor. Just a few little touches here and there to add a little magic my nest. Well, there it is, my fall ledge makeover. I did not spend a fortune (under $10) and now I get to see some of my favorite treasures more often. The space will change a bit for Halloween then get another makeover for Christmas. Goodness, I think I will probably have to amend my rule again for that! By the way ~ did you get to see Nate's show yesterday? Sandy's segment was so beautiful and she looked like a pro! Well, Happy White Wednesday to you ~ visit Kathleen over at Faded Charm for your weekly fix of wonderful whites!!

nifty thrifty tuesday...

Thank you all for your kind words of encouragement yesterday ~ it truly touched my heart! As promised, I want to show you the treasures I picked up over the weekend. At the first yard sale I walked out empty handed and at the second one I picked up this old fashioned looking baby buggy, with it's dark colors I think it will look good in my Halloween display at the shop...I am going to fill it with some spanish moss, flowing down the side. Hmmm, wouldn't it look really creepy if I had one of those old doll heads to place in it too?! (Insert evil laugh here!) At the next stop I picked up these two old hand painted irons...
As well as this wonderful old vintage mirror... It is so heavy and I love the details... I am torn between putting it in my booth or keeping it and giving it a dreamy coat of white! The next stop was my first estate sale, although I do remember going to one with my Mom when I was very young. There was not much left as it started on Saturday. The ladies running it were very nice and told me that there was a line down the street on opening day full of dealers and they picked up almost everything. One of the owners had a wonderful old doll collection and there was still some furniture left like some wonderful old doll dressers (wish I took my camera) as well as old doll trunks and cases and this little old beauty... How sweet and shabby is this! The tag was marked that it was from the fifties and is in wonderful vintage condition...lots of scratches and chips and pretty pink paint! Love the old strawberry fabric...There is a rip but I think it adds to the charm of the piece. I also picked up this pretty tablecloth with sweet pink embroidered flowers...As well as this old canister set...Of course my personal shopper Martha (thank you!) surprised me with this sweet set of doilies...
I picked up all these nifty treasures for under $40! Pretty thrifty wouldn't you say?! Just in time for Linda's Nifty Thrifty Tuesday over at Coastal Charm ~ now go have fun looking at all their "stuff" and have a wonderful day!!

sharing with you...

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend! After a rainy Friday the weather cleared just in time to light a warm and cozy fire at the campground ~ the rest of the weekend was just spectacular!! Unfortunately Jim was under the weather on Friday but rallied on Saturday and felt even better on Sunday to go yard saleing with me. We found an estate sale too at one of the big old beautiful homes on the ocean in Plymouth. Visit me tomorrow to see what treasures I found! Hopefully by tomorrow I will be feeling better...I think I am getting what Jim had!

Anyway today I thought I would share a few things with you. Like the birthday countdown... Ok fellow Moms of 21 year olds or soon to be 21 year olds...do you think this countdown is crazier than when they were toddlers too?! I am sure this week will fly by like last week did with Jaclyn texting me and calling me quite often to remind me what Friday is ~ but I love it!! In addition to getting ready for her birthday I am going to be participating in the launch blog party for the new magazine Creating Vintage Charm. The magazine is available for purchase today (can't wait to get my copy) but on Saturday I am going to share how I use vintage in my home. I believe they are looking for future contributors and I am keeping my fingers crossed. There are so many talented women out there and I know my chances are slim but since I am sharing, one of my dreams is to be in a magazine! So I am going to pick a few favorites from my past posts and hope for the best. Any suggestions? Just look at the beautiful cover... I am sure you all know Sandy from My Shabby Streamside Studio ~ and I am sure you all know that Nate Berkus has his own show. Well, Sandy is being featured on his show tomorrow... Her tale is truly inspiring (from being featured in magazines, the NY Times and having an amazing blog) and I am just so excited and happy for her! When I read her blog this morning as she shares her adventure with us it made me hold tighter to my dream. While I do not have a shabby streamside studio to die for ~ just a little cottage that I muse about and share with all of you, I am hoping the magazine wants to share with their readers perhaps someone just like them ~ me. Just a wife and mom who has a little cottage style home, a little blog, a little corner at an antique mall, a little shop on Etsy but has big dreams in her heart! Well, thank you to Creating Vintage Charm (don't forget to visit their blog on Saturday) and My Shabby Streamside Studio (tune in to Nate tomorrow) for the photos. Big thanks to all of you for letting me share with you today but I must go ~ the princess is up, ready to head back to school and you know it's only 4 more days!!!

fall inspiration...

Yes ~ my fall cleaning and feathering is still underway. My well planned week did not go as planned. While I did get a few things accomplished like my fall display in my booth, a few rooms deep cleaned and all the summery treasures put away I thought I would at least get my ledge finished. It is almost done and I am sure after another browse through my nest and some digging up in the attic I should be ready for the reveal on White Wednesday. This no new stuff thing I promised myself is quite a challenge. So what does a girl do when she can not shop, she browses...

and puts some of her favorite things on Etsy in a treasury... I have not figured out how to put the actual treasury in my post yet but wanted to share with you my "Fall Inspiration". Just a few favorites to give me some ideas on how to finish off my ledge. If you want to be inspired too...take a peek here. You all know how I love vintage mirrors and always scoop them up when I see them either for myself or my booth. One beauty that has been sitting in my craft room that was actually destined to be dreamy white made it's way upstairs. It replaced this one...You can see one last glimpse at a bit of the ledge how it used to look. I am glad I left the mirror as is, for now anyway...I am hoping to change up the mantel next week too. The wonderful patina on this old mirror will compliment my ledge perfectly...I think over the weekend I am going to use my gift certificate to Pottery Barn that I won in a giveaway a few months ago. I have been browsing the catalog and have got alot of inspiration from there as well. It will be a challenge not to spend over the GC amount!! Well, thank you for stopping by today and make sure you visit Debra over at Common Ground for Vintage Inspiration Friday. Whether it is a photo from a favorite blog, an idea from a catalog or a certain color on a vintage treasure you never know when a bit of inspiration will hit you. Enjoy your weekend and remember...
